How opening a business works in the US
In New York, Miami and Los Angeles, which business can open in a given space is set by the city's zoning: the Zoning Resolution in New York, Miami 21 in the City of Miami and the Municipal Code (LAMC) in Los Angeles. Plans and changes of use are signed by a state-licensed architect or professional engineer, and the Certificate of Occupancy is issued by the Department of Buildings. LocalCheck's report is the starting point for that professional: it gives them the zone, the conditions and the notices already worked out. It does not replace the professional or the official permits.
